Daniel Alcock

Daniel Alcock studied BSc Sport and Exercise Nutrition and now works as a Site Nutritionist for Chartwells Catering at Millfield School.

"After attending an open day, I knew Hartpury was the best option. I've always wanted to study a nutrition-related degree, and getting to cook nutritional food during the course was one of my favourite parts. Hartpury supported my ability to disseminate scientific literature and provided opportunities for the practical application of my learning and my experience with the triathlete and rugby league U18s club. These provided ample exposure to working one-on-one with athletes, which is quite a large part of my role now.

I work as the site nutritionist for Chartwells catering company at Millfield School. A lot of what I learnt at Hartpury has prepared me for the work I do here - supporting students with their well-being needs and allergies, working with the sports department to provide performance nutrition advice to our athletes, delivering education sessions across the school, and planning pop-up stalls to ensure that students have appropriate nutritional intake and knowledge.

In the future, I'd like to move to a professional sporting club or professional sporting government body where I can further my experience. I advise anyone considering Hartpury to attend an open day and ask questions. Make sure the course you've chosen is one you’re interested in. Make the most of any work experience opportunities, as they’re the best way to grow and learn in nutrition and other careers."
