Charlotte graduated from Hartpury University with a First in BSc (Hons) in Human-Animal Interaction and now works as an Animal Care Assistant at The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home (CDCH).
"Graduating with a First Class Honours in a degree that allowed me to follow my passion results from three years of hard work and dedication. I’ve explored various topics, including human psychology, cognitive ethology, animal behaviour and welfare, and applied all of these in the workplace. I combined my knowledge and research skills to undertake my dissertation project - Investigating the effects of fly masks on equine affective states and social communication, for which I achieved a First Class grade. Although my supervisor noticed the difficulties I may face, I was determined to make it work. I got to present it at two conferences, winning the best poster award at the UFAW Student Animal Welfare Conference.
The best thing about Hartpury is that if you have specific interests, you can talk to your lecturers as they’re so well-versed. They have a wide range of knowledge, and even if they don't think they can support you fully, they'll get you in touch with other people who can. I’ve had the luxury of learning from esteemed lecturers and made connections throughout the field through different placements, including at the Dog Spa at Hartpury. In the future, I hope to return to research to help impact more animals through my work."
