Results day support

A-level results day can be among one of the most nerve-wracking times for your young person. This page will outline some of the key things to note for the day.

HE Student Support (1)

Getting ready for the day

The lead up to results day can be worrisome for many students. Your young person can ensure they’re prepared by having the following important things at hand so they can tackle the next steps -

  • A pen and paper to make notes
  • Details from universities on their conditional offers, university contact numbers, their UCAS number, plus universities' UCAS and Clearing numbers
  • Their personal statement and GCSE results

They could also prepare alternative options should their desired options not be achieved. You could support them with doing research on universities and courses beforehand, with a list of questions to ask course tutors and admissions teams

On results day

Your young person will need to log onto UCAS after 8.00am to see if they have managed to secure a place at their first-choice course.

Not all students get the grades required for their first choice. If this is the case, their second choice may still be an option. In some cases, the first or second choice university may offer your young person on a different course to the one they had originally applied for. It is up to them whether they choose to accept this alternative course, or to go through Clearing.

What do their results mean?

  • They’ve achieved the required grades for their firm or insurance choice

Many congratulations! Their university place is confirmed, and UCAS will show this online. They will receive a postal letter from UCAS detailing the next steps.

  • They’ve achieved higher grades than expected

This is great news, as it allows your young person to consider courses that had higher entry requirements if they desire. Please contact us and we can advise if those courses are available.

  • They’ve achieved lower grades than expected

Help your young person remain calm and collected, as all is not lost! If their grades were close to the required grades, we might still be able to accept them or offer an alternative course if there is space available. If not, your young person can find alternative universities and courses through Clearing. You can find more details about Clearing on the UCAS page.

Expecting results for other qualifications?

International Baccalaureate
For May 2025 exams, results day is 6 July 2025.

Scottish Highers
Results day is 5 August 2025.

BTECs and City & Guilds
Results should come to us via UCAS on A-level results day, however some may be released sooner. If your young person is unsure, they're welcome to contact us directly.

GCSEs
If they're resitting GCSEs, their results don’t come to us automatically and they'll need to send evidence to us on GCSE results day (photo of statement of results) via email at admissions@hartpury.ac.uk.

Other international qualifications
These will generally not come via UCAS, so they will need to send photos/scans of results to international@hartpury.ac.uk or admissions@hartpury.ac.uk.

Level 3 (L3)
If for any reason we don’t receive their L3 results, we will update their application on UCAS to advise that we're waiting on results. Advise your young person to check their UCAS Hub for updates! They're welcome to send evidence to us via email at admissions@hartpury.ac.uk.
