Hartpury University and Hartpury College will sponsor a sculpture, part of the Lions at Large initiative in aid of the Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity.
Over 30 large lion sculptures are being designed and painted by local artists celebrating Gloucestershire’s rich history, culture and diversity. They will be joined by the Cub Club – a pride of little lions created by local schools and community groups.
From July to September, the lions will be displayed at a fun, free and family-friendly Pride of Gloucestershire Trail. Streets, parks and open spaces will dazzle with the lion’s vibrant colours and surprising designs. Once the trail is over, the pride will reunite for a farewell weekend where the community will have the chance to meet the magnificent creations.
After the event, the little lions will return to their forever homes in local schools and community groups. The large lions will be auctioned to raise funds for proposed new cancer care facilities in Cheltenham with digital consulting rooms, space for state-of-the-art research, as well as a therapeutic outside space.
Karen Organ, Partnership Manager at Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity, said: “We are delighted that Hartpury University and Hartpury College have joined as a sponsor. Their dedication to education and inspiring future generations aligns beautifully with the spirit of this trail to encourage learning, creativity and community connection. Their support will not only add to the pride of this incredible project, but also help The Big Space Cancer Appeal build a bigger, brighter home for cancer treatment for local patients, their families and the staff who care for them.”
Nikki Budding, Sponsorship and Business Engagement Officer at Hartpury University and Hartpury College said: “It’s a great honour for Hartpury to be involved with this colourful and creative community campaign. Through this partnership, we’re not only celebrating creativity and community spirit, but also making a meaningful impact on local healthcare and recognising the incredible work of the Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity. We can’t wait to see the lions take to the streets this summer!”
