Hartpury College achieves ‘Outstanding’ rating in latest Ofsted residential inspection

Hartpury College is proud to announce that it has received an “Outstanding” rating across all areas in its latest Ofsted inspection of residential provision, conducted from 26-28 November 2024.

This prestigious rating reflects the college’s exceptional support for its 703 residential students (585 of whom are under 18), with a strong emphasis on student well-being, safety, safeguarding and academic success.

The Ofsted report commended Hartpury College for fostering a thriving residential community, stating, “Students thrive in the residential provision at this college. A dedicated and committed staff team supports them to reach their potential. Students value the opportunities that come from being a residential student. Leaders nurture and foster a sense of community that students belong to.”

A structured induction programme ensures that new students settle in smoothly, with team-building activities that help form friendships and positive relationships with staff. Student engagement is a key strength, with leaders regularly seeking feedback and making changes in response,.

Enrichment opportunities were highlighted as a strong aspect of the residential experience, with activities ranging from lively games of bingo to extensive recreational sports programmes. The academic environment at Hartpury College was praised for its high expectations and high-quality facilities contributing to an outstanding learning environment.

Safeguarding and student protection were also highly praised, with a proactive approach to student safety and a restorative approach to behaviour management. Leadership and management at Hartpury College were found to be exemplary, with leaders introducing new initiatives to improve student experience and welfare.

Deputy Principal (Resources), Lesley Worsfold expressed her pride in the achievement, stating: “We are thrilled to receive this ‘Outstanding’ rating from Ofsted. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and the positive, supportive community we have built here at Hartpury. We will continue to strive for excellence in providing the best possible residential experience for our students.”

Parents also expressed their confidence in the college’s residential provision, praising the staff communication and the safe, supportive, environment for their children.

Full Ofsted inspection (2024)

In April 2024, it was announced that Hartpury College retained their 'Outstanding' rating following a full Ofsted inspection that took place from 27 February to 1 March 2024.

In the report, the institution was praised for its overall effectiveness in all areas including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, education programmes for young people, adult learning programmes, apprenticeships, and provision for students with high needs. The inspectors also concluded that the college makes a ‘strong contribution’ to meeting skills needs which is the top grade possible.
