Hartpury University launches MSc Sports Therapy (Conversion) for 2025

Hartpury University is excited to announce the launch of its new MSc Sports Therapy (Conversion) degree, set to welcome its first cohort in 2025. This innovative ‘conversion’ course is designed to transform graduates with a background in sport and exercise science, into industry-ready sports therapy practitioners.

Upon completion, students will gain accreditation from The Society of Sports Therapists (SST), ensuring they meet the high professional standards of the industry, subject to accreditation.

The programme offers an immersive learning experience, utilising Hartpury University’s state-of-the-art sports performance and rehabilitation facilities. Students will be guided through the process of becoming ‘evidence-informed practitioners’, with a focus on applied hands-on skills underpinned by research and theory.

Unique on-campus opportunities, including involvement in the student-led therapy clinic and sports academy, provide students with real-world exposure to practice. Further enhancing this experience, students will complete external placement and a practice-based research project, ensuring they are fully equipped with the skills and experience that employers demand. A minimum of 250 practice-based learning hours are incorporated into the programme, allowing students to build professional expertise.

Graduates will be well-prepared for a range of career opportunities, including roles with sports clubs, private practices, NHS, the fitness and health industry, and the Ministry of Defence. The programme also provides a pathway for future postgraduate study and research opportunities.

Thanks to SST accreditation students gain access to valuable resources, including student insurance for supervised external placements. Upon completing the course graduates will be eligible for full SST membership and insurance, enabling them to practice as Graduate Sports Therapists.

The course is available as a full-time 18-month programme, with a part-time option also available.

Danielle Parker, Senior Lecturer in Sports Therapy at Hartpury University said: “We’re very excited to announce the introduction of the MSc Sports Therapy (Conversion). The programme has been designed to produce professional, evidence-informed sports therapists that can work with everyone from the general population to elite athletes. Applied opportunities on this course are diverse to ensure students develop the skills, experience and connections needed for their graduate career.

“Hartpury University is an outstanding choice for anyone considering a sports degree, and we look forward to creating a generation of industry-leading sports therapists.”
