Honourable Company of Gloucestershire supports apprenticeships at annual awards ceremony

The Honourable Company of Gloucestershire presented 15 apprentices from the county with the Anne Cadbury Apprentice Award, during a ceremony held at Hartpury College on 26 June 2024.

The awards, given annually, benefit apprentices from Hartpury College and Gloucestershire College and are presented to the winning candidates each summer.

The Honourable Company is a strong champion of apprenticeships and believes education and training plays an important role in providing the necessary skills for industry. Launched in 2023, the awards have been designed to help and support apprentices that are in the process of passing through their apprenticeship, with recipients benefiting from an award which will enable them to purchase equipment to further their education and develop in their chosen career.

Hartpury College Level 2 General Farmworker apprentices (with employers in brackets) - Jesse-James Hatten (PJR Farms), Adam Fewtrell (Cracknell Contracting), Kieran Cullen (Potterne Park Farm), Thomas Clements (Sacksfield Farm), and Connor Thresher (Simmons Farms Ltd) were all recognised at this year’s ceremony.

Gloucestershire College students (with employers in brackets) - Alfie Marks (Kinsman Construction), Jacob Dodds (QEP), Josh Righton (Branch Hydraulic Systems), Ubaydullah Moolla (Hydro Aluminium LTD), David Heaney (Hydro Aluminium), Daniel Mitchell (Kilbury Construction Limited), Ethyn Kimberley (Kinsman Construction), George Hartshorne (TNL Carpentry), Caleb Aldridge (Cotswold Hill Development Ltd), Rio Devlin-Price (Rola Electrical Ltd), were also recognised.

Claire Whitworth, Deputy Principal of Hartpury College said: “We are all very grateful to Michael and the Honourable Company of Gloucestershire for championing apprenticeships. The skills that apprentices can bring to the county are an important contribution to the Gloucestershire economy and our students are all very grateful for their awards which will support them immensely with progressing in their professions.”

Julie Tegg, Director of Apprenticeships and Employer Training at Gloucestershire College said: “The award scheme organised and supported by the Honourable Company supports construction and engineering apprentices within the county to successfully progress in their careers. The apprentices they have so generously supported this year are very appreciative of their support. I am delighted to work closely with the Honourable Company on this scheme.”

Michael Jones, the Honourable Company’s Business Interest Group Chair and Trustee said: “Gloucestershire has a great history of engineering excellence and there is little doubt that apprentices play an important role in determining Gloucestershire’s future prosperity by supplying the county with the necessary skills in fields such as construction, agriculture and engineering.

“However, in the current climate some apprentices find it difficult to remain in their studies. This award was designed to support those apprentices with a bursary or a gift of equipment, enabling them to build on their skills for their future development.”
