Hartpury University and Hartpury College is seeking nominations for its first Chancellor. As ceremonial head of two specialist institutions, the Chancellor will play an important ambassadorial role helping to raise Hartpury’s profile and advance its interests regionally, nationally, and internationally.
The Chancellor will host and participate in a wide range of activities with students, as well as staff, alumni, stakeholders, and partners and they will preside over the university’s degree congregations and the college’s Prize Day ceremonies. The Chancellor will be a leading advocate for Hartpury’s achievements, which include high graduate employability rates, high levels of student satisfaction and support, and its position as the no.1 specialist STEM university for local growth and regeneration.
The ideal individual will be non-political and have demonstrated excellence and achieved outstanding distinction in their respective field, inspiring respect from a broad range of stakeholders. Bringing forward a positive public profile, they’ll show genuine interest and affection for people from all walks of life, believing in the power of education as a way of increasing prosperity and creating opportunity. The Chancellor will be supported in the role through ongoing dialogue with Hartpury to help shape their engagement reflecting their individual strengths and interests.
Nominations will remain open until Tuesday 11 April 2023, with nominees considered by an appointment panel and approved by the Board of Governors. Nominations can be made here.
Professor Andy Collop, who joined Hartpury as Vice-Chancellor, Principal and CEO last September, said: “This is an important milestone in Hartpury’s history, presenting an exciting opportunity for an individual to help shape our future and profile.
“Our Chancellor will be committed to our mission, representing and reflecting the values of both Hartpury University and Hartpury College – two outstanding institutions that work side-by-side on one campus and continue to grow and evolve. The role will suit a person who shares our passion for higher education, further education, learning and research.”
The Chancellor will take up the post during an exciting time, following a busy period of campus investment and development. Work is well underway on a University Learning Hub that will be at the centre of an immersive higher education experience when it opens later this year. It follows on from the unveiling of Graze in September 2022 - a contemporary catering, teaching and conference facility popular with college and university staff and students. In The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023, Hartpury was rated sixth in the UK and top in the South West for Teaching Quality, while students ranked us as the top university in the UK for Lecturers and Teaching, third for career prospects and facilities, as well as fourth for support in the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2022.
