The Horse Trust has been confirmed as sponsor at the upcoming International Society for Equitation Science (ISES) Succeed with Science: Performance, Practice and Positive Partnerships Conference 2022, that will be held at Hartpury University from 10-12 August. The charity will sponsor the Pre-Conference Day that takes place on Tuesday 9 August, as well as two additional workshops at the event.
For 135 years The Horse Trust's Home of Rest for Horses has specialised in providing retirement and respite for working horses and ponies. They have four main programmes of activities - providing lifetime sanctuary for retired horses, ponies and donkeys, promoting horse welfare, funding research into horse health and welfare, and educating people about horse health and ownership.
Since 1965, The Horse Trust has given over £25 million in funding for research projects, clinical residencies, capital buildings and equipment for vet schools and other institutions. The fund aims to facilitate non-invasive research of the highest scientific standard that advances knowledge in areas of veterinary treatment, the optimal care of equines and the prevention of disease and suffering. The aim is to impact positively on the wider equine population.
Forming part of a busy schedule, the Pre-Conference Day (9 August) will open with a workshop by Dr Andrew Hemmings and Dr Linda Greening – Inside the horse’s mind: a head first approach to equine management and training, followed by a workshop around the horse-human interaction and concluding with a presentation by Dr Marc Pierard into the application of learning theory in the ridden horse. The pre-conference day is for pre-booked places only.
ISES 2022 Succeed with Science: Performance, Practice and Positive Partnerships will run as a hybrid conference, offering a chance to attend in-person or join virtually. In-person delegates, online researchers, practitioners, students, veterinary professionals, equine organisations, and industry leaders are expected.

The conference provides students at Hartpury with a chance to engage with real-world research, collaborate with staff and industry experts and create contacts for the future. Research underpins Hartpury University’s extensive postgraduate programme, a programme ranked number one in the UK by full-time postgraduate students in the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey 2021.
