The Music Works were crowned winners of the Hartpury University and Hartpury College-sponsored Confident Girls category at the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Awards on Wednesday. Held in association with Punchline.com and lead sponsor Forest Green Rovers Football Club, the awards celebrated the groups, services, projects, activities, events, and organisations that have supported children and families in Cheltenham over the past year.
The NCLB Awards were organised by Cheltenham Borough Council and held at Cheltenham Town Hall, thanks to sponsorship from The Cheltenham Trust. The ceremony was hosted by Claire Thayers, corporate social responsibility consultant, and Camilla Lewington, singer and entertainer.
Hartpury’s sponsorship of the Confident Girls category was particularly fitting as the event took place during the same week as International Women’s Day.
Category winner, The Music Works, transforms young lives through music, with a clear vision for all children and young people in Gloucestershire – particularly those facing barriers in music, learning and life – to be able to realise their potential through music and improve their life chances through creativity, confidence, self-belief, and motivation.
The panel of judges included Dame Janet Trotter - Chair of Child Friendly Gloucestershire, Chris Spencer – Director of Children’s Services for Gloucestershire, Cllr Steve Harvey – Mayor of Cheltenham, Nick Evans – Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Gloucestershire, and Eliza and Becca – ambassadors for vulnerable children and young people at Gloucestershire County Council.
Hartpury’s Lynn Forrester-Walker (Chief Operating Officer) and Stuart Emmerson (Director of Business Development) presented the award.
Speaking after the ceremony, Stuart said: “Congratulations to The Music Works and well done to all the worthy winners at this year’s NCLB Awards.
“Through The Music Works, young people – and girls in particular, have the opportunity to build confidence and unlock their potential through the power of music, and we’re delighted that the hard work of this brilliant organisation has been recognised in this way.
“We’d like to pay special tribute to the other finalists in this category – Rock Young Leadership and The Rock, who, like Hartpury, are committed to improving and enriching the lives of children and young people across our region.”
The award sponsorship is in line with Hartpury’s wider commitment to the health and wellbeing of young people. Learn more about Hartpury College’s commitment to student wellbeing or explore Hartpury University’s student support guide.
