Hartpury University – a renowned centre of sporting excellence – has launched a new master’s degree to equip graduates with the expertise to meet modern standards in the global sports management industry.
Students enrolled on the MSc Sports Management programme will benefit from unique support from leading academic and industry experts within the new Hartpury Sports Business Hub – an extensive network of sports businesses that will work with postgraduate sports students to deliver specific projects to meet real-world industry needs.
Students will have the opportunity to negotiate and drive a live project with Hartpury’s connected partners, which include Gloucester Rugby, Cheltenham Racecourse and Cheltenham Town FC, and internally Hartpury Equine.
The global sports market reached a value of nearly $388.3 billion in 2020 and is forecast to reach $599.9 billion by 2025, and $826 billion by 2030, according to the Business Research Company, driven by factors including increased internet accessibility, rising sponsorships and the growth of e-sports.
The new master’s degree at Hartpury, from where 96% of graduates are in employment, further study or other purposeful activity within 15 months (Graduate Outcomes, 2020), will provide students with the contemporary skills and knowledge required to gain a rewarding career within this changing and growing industry.
Offering both full-time and part-time options, the degree can be studied alongside existing employment or other commitments, and provides an ideal progression route from Hartpury University’s BA (Hons) Sports Business Management degree.
Hartpury University was ranked third in the UK for part-time student satisfaction and received 100% student satisfaction for all postgraduate part-time courses (Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTSE) 2019).
Programme Manager Dr Kevin Harris, Principal Lecturer in Sport and Management, said: “The role of a successful sports manager is changing, as new technologies, organisational cultures and social trends influence best practice.
“This degree has been designed to meet modern industry demands, focusing on the application of theory to practice across a range of sports management and business settings.
“The programme is ideal for those wanting to pursue a management-level career in a range of different sports sectors, from sports marketing and consultancy agencies to national governing bodies, leisure providers and charitable sectors.”
