Hartpury and Forest Green Rovers offer studentship alongside master’s programme

Hartpury University and Forest Green Rovers have teamed up to provide a funded opportunity to study a master’s degree in sports performance analysis while also gaining real-world experience in an elite football environment.  

Through the collaboration, Forest Green Rovers FC Academy are offering a two-year work placement alongside a fully-funded part-time MSc in Applied Performance Analysis in Sport across two years at Hartpury University, a renowned centre of sporting excellence.  

Launched in the 2017-18 season, the Forest Green Rovers Academy has around 140 players at U7 to U18 age-group level, with a number of players progressing into the first-team squad in League Two.  

The placement will include filming and coding of training sessions and matches, the delivery of analysis sessions, assisting with implementation of player development plans, and contributing to projects and reports specific to the Performance Analysis department.  

Luke Brick, Lecturer in Sports Performance Analysis on the MSc Applied Performance Analysis in Sport programme, said: “This is a rare opportunity to combine studying a postgraduate degree at a leading UK university while also gaining real-world experience in an elite and modern football environment.  

“The placement will enable the successful applicant to put into practice the theoretical knowledge they’ve gained on the master’s programme at Hartpury University, where benefits include access to state-of-the-art facilities to support their studies.

Only successful applicants to the MSc in Applied Performance Analysis in Sport at Hartpury University starting in September this year will be eligible for the work placement with Forest Green Rovers FC Academy.

Hartpury University has developed the master’s programme in consultation with leading professionals from England Rugby, professional sports clubs and Hartpury’s own performance sports teams in rugby, football, rowing, golf, netball, modern pentathlon and equestrian disciplines.
