Prepare for a career in PE and sports coaching with this course. Learn through theoretical and practical sessions using our university level facilities. You’ll complete a seven-week work placement at a local primary school and deliver PE lessons. In year two, you'll have the opportunity to specialise within a coaching, teaching, or sporting pathway and complete a Level 3 qualification in Sports Leadership for an extra 16 UCAS points. You'll gain leadership and coaching experience through voluntary opportunities.
5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above to include English Language and Maths.
Your modules could include Anatomy and Physiology, Development and Provision of Sport, Sports Leadership, and Coaching for Performance.
In your first year:
• You will complete a six-week coaching placement at a local primary school where you will deliver physical education lessons to pupils of all ages.
In your second year:
• You will be able to specialise in any coaching/sport related field that you are interested in. Alongside this you will gain additional experience working with students with special educational needs.
A work placement during your first and second years will allow you to gain first-hand experience of the industry as well as invaluable networking opportunities and contacts.
In addition to the schools coaching placement, you have the opportunity to volunteer weekly in a local primary school and we have the contacts to supply you with as much voluntary leadership as you wish.
You will have a wide variety of progression opportunities on completion of this course. You can progress to university to study sports programmes, usually with the specific goal of becoming either a teacher or a coach.
This course provides a solid grounding in all aspects of leadership and therefore progression in to employment is a realistic alternative to university. Careers in coaching or leadership are popular options and this often involves some voluntary coaching over the summer either in the UK or abroad.
