Sustainability at Hartpury

For over 75 years, Hartpury has been at the forefront of tackling the challenges faced by the land-based sector. We began with the pressures of a post-war era. Now, we are striving to find ways to mitigate and adapt to the impact of climate change across all our specialist areas, operate within the realms of sustainability, and share new methods of working with the world that accelerates positive transformation and a just transition.

Underpinning all we do

What it means for us

Sustainability is about doing business without negatively impacting the environment, community, or society. As educators, this is also about ensuring everyone has the knowledge they need to understand our current situation and the agency to act in a way that makes the world sustainable for current and future generations.

Our plan

We are currently working to create a 5-year sustainability strategy, along with supporting policies, emissions report, and action plan, which will all be available here when published. We are committed to aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) through our signatory of the SDG Accord where we will report progress annually.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

We all know that we face big challenges in today’s world: climate and ecological crises, pollution, energy insecurity, poverty, inequality and more. Big challenges need bold action to overcome them, and that is where the Global Goals, or SDGs, come in. They are a plan agreed to by all world leaders to build a greener, fairer, better world by 2030, and we all have a role in achieving them.

At Hartpury, we believe that everyone should be given the chance to experience university life so that they can understand exactly what is on offer in higher education. We work to inspire, motivate and empower young people, helping them make the right decision to suit their individual ‘wants, needs and aspirations’, and ultimately reach their full potential.

Outreach

Hartpury 2030 Strategy: Stronger Together

Hartpury has consulted widely with students, staff and stakeholders and our collective thoughts have been encapsulated in Hartpury 2030: Stronger Together.

The strategy provides an in-depth view of Hartpury's overall direction of travel, core values and three strategic priorities: passion, people and place, combined with three underpinning themes of wellbeing, sustainability and partnerships as the golden threads that run through all we do. Our strategic priorities will guide us in the coming years and help us become the UK’s leading education provider in our specialist areas.
